Washington Tree Fruit Research Committee
Deliverables
- Custom Web Design
- Advanced Search Filter
- Web Mastering
Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission prides itself on being a reference for any information fruit growers might need. They approached Blind Renaissance in hopes that we could create a new website that included a modern, clean look and a searchable database.
The Commission
The Washington Tree Fruit Research Commission was established by the Washington legislature in 1969 to “promote and carry on research and administer specific industry service programs, …which will or may benefit the planting, production, harvesting, handling, processing or shipment of tree fruit of this state…”
BR's Goal
Create a simple and accessible web page where inexperienced web users could access information by searching through a data base of hundreds of scientific articles.

Final Design
The final design was chosen based on the “gem themed” colors for each Annual Research Review page. The colors correlate with the fruit trees the Research Review pages are about: Apples, Stonefruit, & Cherries. The client loved the final design, and this is what we moved forward with for development.
While not a typical design, you’d see with an academic-based website – the final result was a refreshing, colorful, and simplistic design.
Development
We had a rocky development process with this particular website due to it’s size – there are around 900 (and counting) searchable research articles on treefruitresearch.org. This site features a regularly updated archive of reports and reports submission functionality. There is also a featured posts functionality and a carousel of Staff on the ‘About Us’ page.
Due to the immense size of the website, this was one of BR’s most significant undertakings – and we completed it with a flourish.
